The on-screen keyboard and wheels

Play the on-screen 88-key keyboard and the pitch, modulation and expression wheels.

In the Desktop and Tablet layouts the stage has an 88-key keyboard (A0 to C8) and three wheels. Use them to try a sound without a keyboard connected, and to move the wheels with the mouse or your finger.

The keyboard

  • The keyboard plays the selected channel. Tap a channel (or use the computer keys 1 to 8) to choose which.
  • Sounding keys light up red.
  • The coloured bars above the keys show where each channel plays; tapping them opens the splits (Layers and splits).
  • The on-screen keyboard counts as a real keyboard: the channel’s Mute blocks it too.

The wheels

WheelWhat it does
PITCHPitch bend. Springs back to the centre when you let go.
MODModulation wheel (CC 1).
EXPRExpression pedal (CC 11).

The wheels also act on the selected channel only. Double-click a wheel to send it back to its default; hold Shift for finer movement.

Each wheel can move up to 8 targets besides the sound, like a macro: Wheels and expression pedal.

In the Phone layout

The Phone layout shows no keyboard and no wheels: play from your MIDI keyboard.

Octave and transpose for everything

To move every instrument up or down at once, use OCTAVE (−3 to +3) and TRANSPOSE (−12 to +12 semitones), at the top of the MIDI screen. They apply to every keyboard and the screen, stay on this device and leave the DrumPads and the Drone alone (Octave and Transpose). To play the song in another key, use the stage’s KEY (Key and tempo).
