Where effects live

Learn how many effects each channel, bus and the Master take, what the 11 effects are and how to open each one.

Every channel has its own chain of effects, and the sound runs through them in slot order. The buses and the Master have effects too. They are all REDKEYS's own: nothing to install separately.

The slots

WhereSlotsWhat it takes
Channel1 MIDI slot and 5 audio slotsThe 11 audio effects; the MIDI slot, MIDI effects only
Buses (Instruments, Drums, Drone, Click, Playback, Guide)3 audio slotsEQ, Compressor and Limiter
Master3 audio slotsEQ, Compressor and Limiter

The MIDI slot

The slot tagged MIDI is always on top, before the instrument: it works on the notes coming into the channel, not on the sound. An audio effect never goes there. Today the list of MIDI effects is still empty; the first one, the Arpeggiator, arrives in an upcoming REDKEYS update (see how it will work).

Where to work

  • In the mixer, on Tablet and Desktop: each strip shows its slots. The LED at the right end of a slot turns the effect on and off; the name opens its page; an empty slot opens the effect list.
  • On the Phone: the strip does not show the slots. Tap Edit on the channel and go to the Audio tab: the effects are in the Effects section.
  • Buses and Master: tap Edit on the strip; the Effects section is in the drawer.

An effect's page

At the top are the back arrow, the channel, sound and slot, the effect's name, the PRESET box and the Change button. On Tablet and Desktop the page opens as a window over the app (the EQ opens full screen); tap outside it or press Esc to close. On the Phone it fills the screen.

The controls

  • Drag a knob or fader to change its value. Hold Shift for fine adjustment.
  • Double-click a control to open the field and type the value.
  • Ctrl or Alt + click returns the control to its default.
