The Sound tab
Darken the sound, add glide, change the pitch bend and choose Poly or Mono.
The Sound tab has the controls you use most on stage. Every sound starts with Tone; the rest depends on the sound.
| Control | What it does | Range | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tone | Brightness. At 100 % the sound is as it was recorded; below that the highs close down | 0 to 100 % | 100 % |
| Resonance | Boosts the area where the filter cuts. With Tone at 100 % on a sound with no filter of its own, you will barely hear it | 0 to 40 dB | 0 dB |
| Attack | How long the sound takes to reach full volume. Not shown on pianos | 1 to 8000 ms | 5 ms |
| Release | How long the sound takes to fade after you let go of the key | 10 to 12000 ms | 300 ms |
| Glide | The note slides from the previous note’s pitch to the new one. 0 turns it off | 0 to 2000 ms | 0 ms |
| Bend up | How many semitones the pitch bend goes up at the top. 0 shows as Off | 0 to 24 st | 2 st |
| Bend down | How many semitones the pitch bend goes down at the bottom. 0 shows as Off | 0 to 24 st | 2 st |
| Up layer, Down layer, Rel layer | The level of each recorded piano layer: played without the pedal, with the pedal, and the key-release sound. Only on sounds recorded that way | −40 to +12 dB | 0 dB |
The Default column is the Ctrl/Alt + click value. Each sound opens at its own pre-loaded values, which may differ. Rel on, next to Rel layer, turns the key-release sound on and off.
Attack and Release are the envelope
Attack and Release on this tab are the same as on the Envelope tab: change one and the other follows.
Each sound’s pitch bend
Almost all acoustic pianos and most pads come without pitch bend: Bend up and Bend down at Off. To turn it on, type the semitones here, or switch on Pitch bend under MIDI · THIS SOUND on the layer in the channel drawer: the sound then bends 2 semitones each way.
Voice: Poly, Mono and glide
- Poly: every key plays its own note.
- Mono: one note at a time, the last key rules. Let go of it while another is still held and the sound goes back to that one.
- Glide I: the glide only starts from a key still held (legato). A note held by the pedal does not count.
- Glide II: every note glides from the last one, even after it was let go.
