Sequences on the pads

Make a pad fire a MIDI loop that plays the kit or any channel, always entering on the head of the bar.

A Sequence pad plays MIDI notes and sends them to a destination: the pieces of the kit itself (a drum loop) or an instrument channel (an arpeggio, a bass groove, a rhythmic pad).

Create a sequence

  1. Open the pad editor (Edit) and, in Type, choose Sequence.
  2. In Sends to, choose the destination: the pads of this kit or one of the channels.
  3. In Plays, choose Gate or Toggle.
  4. In Length, choose 1 bar, 2 or 4 bars.
  5. Tap Edit notes › to write or record the notes in the piano roll.
ModeHow it plays
GatePlays while you hold the pad (on screen or on the controller) and stops when you let go.
ToggleOne tap starts it and it keeps going on its own; the next tap stops it at once.

Changing the destination does not change any note: it only changes who plays them. Each note's velocity is the one written in the sequence.

When the loop comes in

  • With the song playing or in Drone first: always on the head of the next bar, in the song's tempo.
  • With the count-in on, a loop fired during it waits for the whole count-in.
  • With the transport stopped: the first loop starts right away, in the song's tempo; the next ones come in on the head of its bar, so they lock together.
  • Pressing Play while free loops are running restarts them from zero on the first bar head where the song runs.

In the song's parts

A part can keep which loops are running (with Store). A part that turns a loop on restarts it from zero on the head it enters on; one that turns it off stops it there; one that says nothing about loops leaves them as they are. With a backing track or multitrack, loops can also come in over sections marked on the timeline.

What stops the loops

  • Stop stops them all and turns the pads off; the next Play brings back only those the part turns on.
  • Panic stops and disarms them all and silences the kit.
  • A loop you stopped by hand stays stopped until you tap it again or a part that turns it on comes in.
