The step grid
Draw the arpeggio's rhythm and dynamics: rests, strength, length, rolls, ties and chords.
The grid has up to 16 steps and sits below the settings, in both modes. Each column is a step: the numbered button on top, the lane you edit below.
Turning steps on and off
- Tap the numbered button to turn the step on or off. Drag across several to do the same to all of them.
- A step that is off is a rest. In Arp mode, the note waits and moves to the next step that is on.
- The step that is playing lights up. In Arp mode, its button shows the notes it just played, rest on a rest and chord on a chord.
The lanes
Pick the lane in the selector above the grid and draw by dragging your finger or the mouse across the columns. Next to the selector, a hint explains the chosen lane.
| Lane | Values | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Velocity | 1 to 127 | The step's strength (applies with Velocity set to Grid) |
| Length | 25, 50, 75 or 100 % | How much of the step the note lasts. With Shift, any value. Gate works on top |
| Ratchet | 1 to 4 | How many times the step plays, evenly |
| Tie | On or off | The note carries into the next step, with no new attack |
| Chord | On or off | The step plays the whole chord |
- A tie that lands on a rest ends the note at the rest.
- With Ratchet and Tie on the same step, the last hit is the one that carries on.
- In Arp mode, a Chord step does not move the order on: the next step picks up where it was.
The grid's length
On the right, under Length, the − and + buttons change the number of steps, from 1 to 16. Steps past that length are dimmed and don't play.
Rhythm: 10 ready-made rhythms
Rhythm fills the grid with a ready-made rhythm. It turns steps on and off and sets Velocity, Length, Ratchet and Tie, over 16 steps. In Step Seq, each step's note stays as it was.
| Rhythm | What it is |
|---|---|
| Straight | Every step on, all at the same strength |
| Accents | Every step on, with an accent on each downbeat |
| Offbeat | Every step on, with the accent on the offbeat |
| Gallop | A gallop: a rest after the first note of each beat |
| Tresillo | The 3 + 3 + 2 rhythm |
| Syncopated | Notes off the downbeat |
| Gated Pulse | A pulse with rests, accents and ties |
| Half Time | Every other step |
| Ratchet Roll | Every step on, with rolls at the end of each half of the grid |
| Stabs | The 3 + 3 + 2 rhythm with short notes |
