Connect MIDI devices

See your keyboards and controllers, turn on only the ones you want and know what happens if a cable drops.

REDKEYS sees the MIDI devices connected to your computer, up to 32 at a time, with no restart needed.

The MIDI screen on desktop: the Octave and Transpose strip at the top, the INPUTS, DEVICES, CONTROLLERS, MAPPINGS and WHEELS & PEDAL tabs and the list of channel inputs.
The MIDI screen.

See and choose your devices

  1. Tap the MIDI button at the top (its LED blinks with every message). You can also get there through Settings › Devices › MIDI › Open.
  2. Open the DEVICES tab. Each device shows its name, type, state and a light.
  3. Play a note or move a control: the device's light blinks.
  4. Use each device's switch to turn it on or off.
StateMeans
Active nowA message from it just arrived.
IdleIt has sent messages, but is quiet now.
No messages yetOn, but nothing received yet.
OffTurned off by its switch.

The switch is remembered: a device you turned off stays off after you close and reopen the app, until you turn it on again. While off, nothing from it gets in, and on Windows it is free for another program.

If a cable drops

  • The keyboard that leaves releases at once the notes and pedal it was holding: nothing stays stuck sounding.
  • When it comes back, the app reopens it by itself, with the same mappings and filters.
  • A device that is not connected shows as not connected in the menus, and its mappings stay saved.
