Playing Aurora: voices, portamento and arpeggio
Pick the voice mode and switch on portamento, the arpeggio and HOLD.
The voice mode
| On the strip | How it plays |
|---|---|
| POLY 1 | Polyphonic, one voice per key, up to 32 notes together |
| POLY 2 | Polyphonic; only the last note (or last chord) plays its full release. Good with portamento |
| POLY 1 + POLY 2 | Both lit is Unison: 6 voices on one note, monophonic. DETUNE spreads the voices |
| MONO | One voice, legato |
Lighting a POLY turns MONO off, and the last key lit does not go off. Playing again a key held by the pedal uses the same voice: Aurora never doubles the same note.
Portamento
- On the bottom strip, set the switch to I or II. I glides only between overlapping keys (legato); II glides on every note.
- Turn the PORTAMENTO knob to set the glide time.
- In the control row’s PORTAMENTO section: with POLY off (the default), it plays one key at a time; on, it stays polyphonic and each voice glides from its own last note. With TIME on, every glide takes the same time, whatever the interval.
Arpeggio
- In the ARPEGGIO section, light ON.
- In MODE, pick UP, U&D or DOWN; in RANGE, 1, 2 or 3 octaves.
- Set RATE. With SYNC lit, the arpeggio follows the song’s tempo, in 1/4, 1/8, 1/8 T, 1/16, 1/16 T or 1/32.
- Hold a chord: the notes play in pitch order.
HOLD holds the keys like the pedal. With the arpeggio on, it latches the pattern: the arpeggio keeps going when you lift your hands, and a new key after letting go of all of them starts another. With the arpeggio on, the sustain pedal does the same.
Pitch bend, wheel, velocity and LFO
- The strip’s DCO fader is the pitch bend range: from 0 to 12 semitones each way, starting at 2.
- The VCF fader makes the pitch bend move the filter as well.
- The LFO fader makes the mod wheel open the LFO vibrato.
- In the VELOCITY section, LEVEL makes the volume follow how hard you play and ENV makes the filter envelope follow it. At 0 (the default), force changes nothing.
- In LFO MODE: WAVE picks the shape (triangle, square, sawtooth, random or sine); KEY restarts the LFO on every key and SYNC locks it to the tempo; INV inverts it; with MAN, the LFO only acts while you hold TRIG.
